Hawthorn wasn't trying to insert herself into a missing person's investigation. Or maybe she was. But that's only because Lizzie Lovett's disappearance is the one fascinating mystery their sleepy town has ever had. Bad things don't happen to popular girls like Lizzie Lovett, and Hawthorn is convinced she'll turn up at any moment-which means the time for speculation is now.
So Hawthorn comes up with her own theory for Lizzie's disappearance. A theory way too absurd to take seriously...at first. The more Hawthorn talks, the more she believes. And what better way to collect evidence than to immerse herself in Lizzie's life? Like getting a job at the diner where Lizzie worked and hanging out with Lizzie's boyfriend. After all, it's not as if he killed her-or did he?
Told with a unique voice that is both hilarious and heart-wrenching, Hawthorn's quest for proof may uncover the greatest truth is within herself. "
**Special thanks to NetGalley & Sourcebooks Fire for supplying my copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.**
The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett is the amazing debut by Chelsea Sedoti. It is also one of the interesting YA books in 2017. Actually, it was my first read in 2017. I am usually not a YA reader. However, this book caught my interest and I am glad I picked it up. This was a very interesting read.
Hawthorn Creely is a teenage girl. She goes through her life at school and at home with all the turmoil that comes as a package with being a teenager. She’s not by any means one of the popular girls. However, when she meets Lizzie Lovett, the most amazing, pretty and popular cheerleader at school she can’t help liking her and wishing to be her friend. Hawthorn also has a very imaginative mind. And when the striking news comes one morning that Lizzie is missing, Hawthorn, unable to believe it, throws herself into this investigation and lets her imaginative mind go into multiple scenarios of how Lizzie could have just walked away.
“As long as something was a mystery, there was still the potential for amazement”
This is one of Hawthorn’s thoughts in the book and it can pretty much explain her fascination with mysteries.
Hawthorn follows her theories regarding Lizzie’s disappearance throughout the book knocking every possible opportunity to get to the bottom of it. She throws herself into Lizzie’s world and … let me not spoil it for you.
The Hundred Lies of Lizzie Lovett was a very interesting journey into the fascinating mind of a teenage girl. Her theories were very interesting and her innocence in pursuing the truth and reacting to the real adult world was amazing. It was by all means a page turner.
Finally, I enjoyed this book so much. I recommend this book whether you are a YA reader or not. Just try it and you won’t regret it.
