Sara Adams awakes blind, unable to remember the most basic details of her life, but her darkness seems a blessing when she discovers the terrors of The Light.
Stella Montgomery investigates the news from the mean streets of Detroit, where she’s noticed a disturbing trend: young women are vanishing. When her best friend disappears, Stella digs for answers—despite warnings from her police detective boyfriend—following a twisted trail that leads her through the city’s most dangerous and forsaken precincts. There she uncovers something more sinister than she could have imagined: a shadowy organization known as The Light, led by the enigmatic Father Gabriel.
As Sara struggles to understand her place in the strange world she’s awakened to—an oppressive cult demanding unquestioning obedience—and her feelings for Jacob, the husband she can’t recall and whose harsh and tender attentions confuse and beguile her, Stella risks all to discover the truth. But enlightenment always comes with a price.…

What if you don’t know who you are? What if you are surrounded by darkness while you are supposed to be in the light? Into the Light is the first book in The Light series by Aleatha Romig. It’s quite a start to this series. It’s also my first read for Aleatha Romig.
She awakes to a shredding pain in complete darkness. She’s unable to see. He is by her side in what seems to be a hospital bed. She’d been in an accident or so she was told. Obviously, she can’t remember a thing. The man besides her asks for her obedience while at the same time engulfs her with his protectiveness. She has a lot of questions but can’t speak. Imprisoned behind her lost memory and sight, her mind is spinning. She is Sara. He is Jacob. And from now on, he is her savior.
In a parallel world, Stella is trying to find her missing best friend. She’s a reporter and she’s following every lead to find her friend. She’s digging everywhere for the truth, and as she does, more leads start showing. Many women are disappearing and some are found dead. Stella might be close to revealing an enormous evil. But the closer Stella gets to the truth the closer she also gets to real danger. With a major twist, what can become of the two women?
This is a very mesmerizing mystery thriller. To be honest, there were times when I thought I could predict the twist and said to myself with a sigh “Oh… How typical!”, but I was completely wrong. With a major twist, all my expectations changed and the book was anything but typical.
The book is narrated alternately between Sara, Jacob and Stella. I always find this narration style engaging. You get the story from multiple perspectives. There were times when I felt the plot was moving slowly. There were also times when I felt frustrated by The Light, and by Sara. I couldn’t imagine a person being that submissive.
You have to pay close attention while reading this book. The plot lies between the lines. That was very witty. However, I can’t elaborate more on this else I’ll be giving away the plot.
Still I have one issue with this book which is the cliffhanger. Though the ending was more than breathtaking, it was a major cliffhanger. I do hate cliffhangers, and in this case it felt like I read half a book.
Still, I think The Light is a very interesting series. Aleatha Romig did a good job here. If you are looking for an engaging mystery, I think you will enjoy this series.
